TRANQUILLISER USE INCREASING
FASTER THAN NARCOTICS

LAHORE: Renowned Psychiatrist Prof I A K Tareen has said that as a result of over the counter sale of tranquillizers the use of these addictive medicines is increasing at a faster rate than narcotics.

He said this while addressing a workshop organized to highlight the harmful effects of the prolonged use of Benzodiazepines and other tranquillizers, says a press release issued here on Sunday. Professor Tareen, explaining the ill effects of these tranquillizers, said prolonged use causes headache, drowsiness, malaise, irritability and loss of memory. The use of these drugs affects marital relationships causing conflicts at home leading to suicide, the release added. The Mental Health Federation of Pakistan organized the workshop.
